ProtectaGroup was established by the "Ragan" family in 1991. In 2004, Paul Ragan led a buy-out of other family members valuing the business at ??5m. Since 1993 a number of cold start branches and acquisitions have resulted in the creation of a significant network geographically dominating the South Wales insurance market. In 2005, the group re-branded from Motaquote Ltd to the more generic trading name of ProtectaGroup. Its operating subsidiaries are ProtectaGroup Limited, which consists of all group regulated insurance activities, and ProtectaGroup Services Limited, which encapsulates all the non- regulated group activities.
